Dental-Hygiene

Gum disease is a common oral health problem that, if left untreated, can cause damage to the supporting structures of the teeth.

This can result in gum recession, tooth sensitivity, and even tooth loss. Our hygienists are skilled in managing mild, severe and excessive gum disease, and they can help with the regeneration of lost supporting structures.

Ems Airflow

A regular hygienist visit with EMS Airflow is a professional cleaning treatment that aims to remove plaque, tartar, and stains from the teeth and gums to promote oral health and prevent dental problems.

EMS Airflow is a type of dental hygiene equipment that uses a combination of air, water, and a specially designed powder to remove surface stains and dental plaque more effectively than traditional cleaning methods. The powder used in EMS Airflow is gentle and non-abrasive, making it safe to use on tooth enamel, dental restorations, and sensitive teeth.

During the hygienist visit with EMS Airflow, the dental professional will use the equipment to clean the teeth thoroughly and reach areas that are difficult to clean with a toothbrush or floss. This includes the areas between teeth and along the gumline, where plaque and bacteria can accumulate and cause dental problems such as tooth decay and gum disease.

The benefits of a regular hygienist visit with EMS Airflow include:

  • Removing surface stains: EMS Airflow can remove surface stains caused by coffee, tea, red wine, and other food and drinks that can discolour the teeth.
  • Preventing dental problems: By removing plaque and tartar, a regular hygienist visit with EMS Airflow can help prevent dental problems such as tooth decay and gum disease.
  • Freshening breath: Removing plaque and bacteria from the mouth can help reduce bad breath and leave the mouth feeling fresher.
  • Improving oral health: Regular dental hygiene appointments with EMS Airflow can contribute to overall oral health, and may help you avoid more expensive and invasive dental procedures in the future.

Root Surface Debridement

One of the key treatments offered is Root Surface Debridement (RSD). This involves cleaning the teeth below the gum line using delicate and precise instruments that vibrate and flush away plaque and calculus from the root surface. RSD is typically recommended when normal brushing and cleaning is insufficient to address gum disease.

The procedure is usually performed under local anaesthetic for patient comfort, and antibiotics may also be prescribed depending on the severity of the disease. RSD may take multiple appointments to complete to allow the gums to heal and respond effectively and a plan will be created to ensure you are aware of every step along the way.
